Sensory equipment changes lives. We’ve watched it happen. And we think it deserves a store that takes the products seriously without taking itself too seriously.
How It Started
Ben Knegendorf has spent over a decade building ecommerce businesses. A few years ago, he identified the sensory market as a real opportunity. He talked about it publicly, watched others try it, and kept thinking the same thing: nobody is doing this the way it deserves to be done.
Then his son Carson came along and made it personal.
Carson is four years old. He can count to 1,000, has a memory that would make most adults feel inadequate, and can pattern match in ways that genuinely stop you in your tracks. He is also level two autistic, which mostly just means the world hasn’t figured out yet how to keep up with him. He interacts with sensory equipment multiple times a week at occupational therapy, speech therapy, the YMCA, and school. Every single time, he lights up. Once you see that, the market stops being a market.
“The world hasn’t figured out yet how to keep up with him.”
The Two Bens
Ben Frey has been Ben K’s closest friend and business partner for years. Carson calls him Uncle Frey and stops by the office every morning before school like he owns the place. When it came time to build Epic Elephant, there was only one person to call. This is the business they get to build together, and they plan to keep building it for a very long time.
Why Epic Elephant
The name is personal. Ben K’s mom passed away 17 years ago at just 47. She absolutely adored elephants and had them all over her house. Epic felt right because nothing about what these products do for kids feels small. She would have loved this.
Who We Built This For
We built Epic Elephant for the schools, therapy centers, YMCAs, and families who work with these kids every day and deserve a better place to shop. Premium equipment from brands that take quality seriously, presented clearly enough that you can make a confident decision without a research degree. No overwhelm. No guesswork. Just the good stuff, from people who genuinely care how it turns out.
Play First. Labels Later.
We believe kids should get to play hard, explore freely, and stay curious. Epic Elephant curates sensory gear that’s built for movement, focus, and joy.
We also have plans to bring our own products to market. This is just the beginning of something we intend to build for a very long time, for Carson, and for every kid like him.
